“Malawi continues to make steady progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS” says NAC

The National AIDS Commission (NAC) says Malawi is continuing to make steady progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
NAC Executive Director, Mr. Davie Kalomba, made the remarks on Thursday, June 23, when he officially opened the 2016 National Conference of People Living with HIV at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe.
“According to the 2015 HIV and AIDS estimates, we have reduced the number of new HIV infections from 42,000 in 2014 to 33, 000 per year, we have further reduced the rate of annual AIDS related deaths from 34,000 in 2014 to 27,000 deaths per year in 2015,” Mr. Kalomba said.
Appointment of Mr. Davie Kalomba as NAC Executive Director

The National AIDS Commission (NAC) Board of Commissioners wishes to inform its stakeholders and the general public that following a successful competitive recruitment process early this year, it has pleased His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, to appoint Mr. Davie Francy Kalomba, as the new Executive Director for NAC, with effect from 1st June 2016.
Mr. Kalomba joined NAC in 2004 and prior to his new appointment, he has served the Secretariat in other senior management portfolios, including that of Head of Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research; Acting Director of Programmes; and, Acting Executive Director.
Malawi commemorates Zero Discrimination Day

A cross-section of People Living with HIV, Government officials, UNAIDS and other stakeholders in the national HIV and AIDS Response joined the world in commemorating Zero Discrimination Day on 1st March 2016 in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the commemoration, Chief of Health Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Charles Mwansambo, said it very unfortunate to note that people living with HIV are still being discriminated against even 30 years after the first case of HIV was diagnosed in Malawi.
UNAIDS applauds Malawi for making strides towards ending AIDS

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has applauded Malawi for making major strides towards ending AIDS by the year 2030.
UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director and Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, Her Excellency Jan Beagle made the remarks when she met the Board Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission (NAC), His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Kyungu XXIV on Tuesday, 26 January 2016 in Lilongwe.
