The Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare has launched four strategic documents aimed at providing a strong policy framework on gender programing in the country. The strategic documents are the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Strategic Plan (2024–2030), National Gender Policy (2025–2030), National Integrated Early Childhood Development Policy (ECD), and the National Action Plan on Women’s Economic Empowerment (NAPWEE). The event to mark the official launching of the documents was held on September 5, 2025, at Chivala Primary School, T/A Mkukula in Dowa District-central part of Malawi.
Speaking at the launch of the four strategic documents, Minister of Gender Community Development and Social Welfare Honourable Jean Sendeza described the documents as key in efforts to promote gender equality at all levels.
For smooth implementation of the strategic documents, the gender minister has therefore called upon all stakeholders to work together and embrace partnerships to deliver stronger results for communities.
The National AIDS Commission (NAC) was among key stakeholders at the launch of the four strategic documents. NAC was represented by the Head of HIV Prevention and Management, Dr. Andrina Mwansambo.
The commission’s participation was a demonstration of its commitment in ensuring that gender equality and women’s empowerment remain central to the HIV response.
NAC is optimistic that the National Gender Policy and the National Action Plan on Women’s Economic Empowerment will create opportunities to advance HIV prevention among women and adolescent girls. On the other hand, the ECD Policy aims to support efforts to address vulnerabilities that occur early in life.
As such, the commission remains committed to working with the Ministry of Gender and other partners to strengthen collaboration in addressing the intersecting challenges of gender and HIV in the country.
